Reasons to carry a camera

Oh, Internet, I almost forgot to tell you.
We went to this fairly nice place for dinner, but it was closed, so we ended up in the “restaurant” section of a bar next door. The food was pretty good, but the country music was… well, it was country music, and even if you think there’s good country music, which there isn’t, this wasn’t it.
About half-way through dinner, a man finished setting up his equipment: a guitar, a mic, and an amp, and started singing.
Country music.
I assume that the owners thought this would be the sort of things patrons (of which there were 4, including us) would prefer, over, say, being able to have a conversation at dinner.
I was able to mostly block it out.
On the way out, The Wife put a few bucks into the tip “bucket” on his mic stand (that would be a bucket, with the word “TIPS” scrawled on a white piece of paper which was taped within an inch of its life across the front of the bucket. Stay classy, West Virginia).
Outside, she said, “What? I liked that one song. Besides, when he started playing, they turned off the radio.”
I suspect she did it because she wanted to make him happy, due to her inner core of goodness which I haven’t been able to snuff out, even after almost 19 years together. It’s like that picture of that kitten clinging to a fence over the flood waters.
Today was report card day (all “A"s! despite having had some tests/assignments that he has struggled with), and school picture day (adorable, as you’d expect), and then a friend of ours offered to watch The Boy while The Wife and I went out on a date.
Other than a few moments where it appeared that she might leave me for a plate for garlic parmesan wings, it was pretty close to a perfect day.
From now on I’ll be posting stuff to Posterous. I may even move my domain over there.
The good news is: you don’t have to do a thing about it.
Posterous has a feature (which I had forgotten about) called ‘Autopost’ where it will take what you post and automatically send it elsewhere, including Tumblr (which is probably where you’re reading this now) and Typepad.
If you’re following me on Tumblr, posts will continue to appear in the dashboard, as usual, even if I migrate my domain elsewhere.
Typepad is fancier than Posterous, and has a better financial base, but Posterous is run by engineers, and I suspect that they will find a way to make things work, unlike Tumblr, who have apparently given up, or are overwhelmed, or are out partying.
It’s entirely possible that Posterous could “Pull A Tumblr” (is it too early to call it that?) but I like it better than Typepad, which was obviously a free service designed to get you to buy their paid services, and included that stupid “Kleenex” thing in the place where I’m supposed to post.
(Also, Typepad can’t deal with Markdown via email, can Posterous can, you just have to start your email message with and end it with to make it work.)
So that’s what I’m doing. I mentioned this before but since Tumblr is janky, I’ll repeat it: if you want to follow me on Posterous, I’m http://luomat.posterous.com and on Typepad I’m http://luomat.typepad.com/.
>Dear Tumblr: we all want you to get your shit together, but just about none of us think you will.
p.s. – the biggest problem with Posterous seems to be there’s no equivalent of the Dashboard. Which Typepad has. So maybe I’ll find myself reading one and posting to the other. Dunno yet. It’s not a thorough plan.

While looking for a way to post to a WordPress blog via email, I came across Posterous.
I love the idea of just being able to throw anything at it, especially via email, and have it "just work".
I wish it had Markdown support, especially for email.
So this is a test, for now.
